I know it’s been a long time coming. I still have a LOT to do. I did get some stuff done this weekend.

    100_8531

I took care of all these leaves! That was an all day job.

    100_6410

    BEFORE

You can see how I painted my cabinets at my posts doors and drawer fronts and prepping/priming the front facings.

    100_8532

I put the upper cabinet doors back on.

    100_8534

    Note: no backsplash yet.

    100_8535

    100_8536

You may remember that I opted NOT to paint the inside of the doors or cabinets. Look! I left a piece of tape on. Funny that I don’t see these things until I load the pictures.

    100_8538

    100_7407

    100_8539

I still haven’t touched up that part of the ceiling. I’m waiting till I switch out the light fixture. The current one is VERY large and when I take it down I will have quite a bit of painting to do.

    100_8542

The doors had handles before. I replaced them with knobs.

    100_8543

Another picture of how the inside looks.

    100_8544

    100_8547

These are the knobs I got. Quite a bargain, huh?

    100_8548

    Look at the savings! $81.90

    100_8550

I mopped the floor about 6 times, the first time with soap and Mr. Clean. Each time after that was with plain water to make sure all the soap was removed. After that, I used TSP on it. It really was quite dull when I got finished. However, this vinyl floor never had a high gloss to it.

    100_8554

    After 1 coat of primer.

    100_8561

Another view. You can see the finished floor in my post  How I Painted My Vinyl Floor

Now for some good news. I’m going to be a …. mother-in-law! Ohhh, I hope I won’t be the dreaded kind! Andy asked, Jamie said yes! I am so happy to welcome Andy into the family! You can leave Jamie a comment below or on her page at Owl Really.

    ain’t life grand!

I am in love with your new cabinets! Thats one of my upcoming BIG projects, I think we have nearly the same cabinet doors. I am finishing up my bathroom cabinets before I attempt the kitchen..Ive been using brush and foam roller, what a PAINT. Might need to seriously go for a sprayer!

Congratulations, Mother in Law! It's not a hard job~as long as I feed my son in law and tell him he's wonderful, we get along fine. And he is wonderful.

Your kitchen looks like a million bucks! I can't wait to see the finished floor.

      Gail-

Your kitchen is looking great- can't wait to see how the the floor turns out. I want to paint my kitchen floor too.
I am curious... over your sink the header board has scroll work in the first picture; but the positioning of the camera in all your after photos make it appear straight now. Is it just the angle or did you replace the scrolled board with a straight piece.
It's driving me mad... I need to know! ha!

Wow great job on the cabinets, they look beautiful you made the right choice to paint them. I love the look of the knobs and for that price I love them even more! Trying to wait patiently for the next reveal, it's a lot of hardwork for you but what satisfaction you will get when you are finished.

The stove hood looks AMAZING! Yes it was lovely but the paint really adds dramatic fierceness! I think the paint adds such a drama to it that it is shaperned by the paint job. I heart it. I love how it is all coming together. Seriously I did a double take with the hood. AMAZING!

      Cheers~

Wow!!! Our kitchens could be twins-I had honey oak cabinets that I just (barely) finished painting white (for the uppers) and then green for the base cabinets. I am totally intrigued about the floor-would love to hear more about what you are doing.

your kitchen is so pretty! Come visit mine-you will feel right at home since even the cabinet style is the same!!

I've spent the last few minutes reading all about the methods you used in painting them. Thank you so much for sharing the details with us. First off, congrats to you and your daughter. How exciting!

Your kitchen is coming along beautifully! What a smooth finish. I went back to the tutorial. Phew... lots of work but totally worth every minute! Look forward to the final reveal! We have cherry cabinets but a very tiny kitchen so I'm thinking of painting them white or cream to open it up. I'll be popping back for inspiration!

Gail first off let me congratulate you on becoming a MIL... I am sure you will be the best ever. That is so exciting for you, Jamie and Andy. You will have lots of fun planning the big day I am sure.

The kitchen looks fabulous... I love how the wood grain still came through... you did an amazing job on the painting, I agree with Rose looks so professional. Can't wait to see what you are doing to the floor. Love the knobs too, great deal... don't you love it when they tell you how much you save... that just gives me the biggest thrill. I never tell you what I spend but I always tell you what I saved...lol

Have a great week sweetie, can't wait to see the rest.

Hey sweet lady! I am so excited that you're getting a new son! 🙂 Yay, it's a boy! 😉 lol
Your kitchen is looking amazing!!! Wish I could have come over earlier in the day Friday, I would have come in and helped you paint...or at least raked some leaves! 🙂
You got an amazing deal on those knobs, and they're really cute too. A lot of times they only mark down the stuff no one would want, but those are really really cute! 🙂
Mom loves your handy work! I'm supposed to go over one day this week and put all her pretty stuff in them...I'll snap some pics for ya while I'm there. 🙂

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be the lovable kind of mother-in-law : ) Your kitchen is really coming along nicely! I'm really interested in this project of yours because it's what I need to do too. Your cupboards are beautiful! I wan to to the same, but my cupboards are so plain... handmade plywood numbers with no personality whatsoever.
