Repurposed Red Footboard Coat Rack

Old headboards are too pretty to toss. With a few simple updates, they can become a unique coat rack that adds both charm and function to your home. This project demonstrates how easy it is to transform a cast-off headboard or footboard into a unique piece that’s ready to hang in any entryway.
I love a great repurposed headboard project. But this project is a footboard coat rack. It would be best not to overlook the footboards.

Using a Paint Sprayer
Painting a headboard (or footboard) by hand can be tedious. A paint sprayer like the Homeright Finish Max provides great coverage with minimal overspray.
The black paint went on well, but it’s only the base coat for the footboard coat rack.
Doing a Dry-brush Technique
After the black paint dried, I used a cheap chip brush to do a dry brush technique on the footboard coat rack.
Isn’t the color perfect? Due to the black base coat underneath, the color appears as a deep red rather than a bright red.
I love a deep glazed red, my favorite being the repurposed piano front in my kitchen.
Add Hooks
I recently ordered a LOT of hooks from D Lawless Hardware because they have great prices and I have a LOT of headboards.
Red Footboard Coat Rack
I love the way these hooks look on the red footboard coat rack.
The new red headboard coat rack will even hold scarves and/or jewelry.
Red Repurposed Bed Coat Rack for Stockings at Christmas
During the holidays, it can even be used to hold stockings!
Here you can see it on display at Glendale. It actually sold pretty quickly.
