Round Side Table Makeover

I still love quick and affordable furniture makeovers that turn something ordinary into something you reach for every day. This charming round side table started as a FREE find from my cousin, and with just a little cleaning, a few repairs, and fresh paint, it now feels like a custom piece that belongs in any cozy living space. If you’re on the hunt for a side table that adds function and style without spending a fortune, this makeover shows how simple steps and the right supplies can give tired furniture a totally new life.

Side tables are among the most underappreciated pieces in home decor. Small enough to fit in a cozy corner yet functional enough to hold your lamp, cup of coffee, or a stack of books, updating a thrifted table can instantly elevate a room. This project demonstrates that even a simple round table can become a standout piece with a rich gray finish, thoughtful preparation, and careful painting. Adding an intentional color choice and finishing touches makes it feel intentional, not leftover furniture.

Repair Thrift Store Furniture

The little table had been in storage and needed cleaning and repairs. Would you have picked this up for free?

Gorilla Wood Glue and clamps secured the banding. Tip: Baby wipes will help clean up a wood glue mess if it oozes out.

Prep Furniture The Easy Way

I use several options when cleaning and preparing furniture for painting. See my article “How to Prep Furniture For Painting” for grimy projects.

I began using the wipes to remove dust from the table.

Because the tabletop was so shiny, I used the liquid Surface prep to degloss it and prepare it for paint. I brushed the solution on and wiped it off with a cloth.

The color I chose is Cathedral. The roller and nice paintbrush make it fun to paint furniture.

Paint the Underside of Your Furniture Flip

You may not want to paint the underside if you’re keeping the furniture flip for yourself. However, if you are re-homing it, I highly recommend doing so. You don’t want the new owner to see the ugly truth underneath.

Painting Gray Projects

If you’re working on one project, why not do several? While you wait for the paint to dry, grab another project and then another. Before you know it, you can complete three or four projects with only an extra hour or so invested.

    1. Thank you Denise! I am so behind in visiting. My second home (The Hideaway) is keeping me way too busy these days. I will be around to visit and pin your project very soon.
