Who doesn't love a wooden rocking chair? There are many places for a tall back rocking chair inside and outside your home. Whether you're a new mom rocking your baby to sleep in the nursery or a retired person relaxing on your front porch, nobody can dispute the joy a wooden rocking chair can bring.
Wooden Rocking Chair
The image of this rocking chair looks distorted because it has such a tall back. Note that the spindles on the back are smooth, but they could be a challenge to paint.
It's Furniture Fixer Upper Tour Day! Be sure to visit my friends' projects at the bottom of this post.
This wooden rocking chair came with nicely padded cushions. It was located at a golf course, "play and stay." I doubt that it saw much action from the guys during their downtime. However, the cushions were a little dirty and smelly.
Prepping Wooden Chair for Painting
The All-In-One cleaning wipes degloss and prep surfaces without sanding. Occasionally, I use the liquid version, but I felt these wipes would make this a quick and easy process with all the spindles. I used the wipes on all of the wood surfaces, with no need to rinse.
Sand Damaged Areas
The arms of the rocking chair had a lot of grime and a few blemishes. I used a sanding sponge to smooth these areas.
Using a Paint Sprayer on a Wooden Rocking Chair
For this furniture fixer-upper rocking chair project, I opted for my beloved Finish Max and All-In-One paint (Cashmere).

Begin painting your project upside-down with the paint sprayer. Starting with the underside allows you to work out any kinks and helps you complete the project quickly without any scratches when you flip your furniture project over.
Painting Wooden Furniture With a Paint Roller
I used my foam roller after that first light (ugly) coat with the sprayer. I concentrated on the flat surfaces of the wooden rocking chair's seat and arms.
Notice the beautiful sheen of the All-In-One Paint. Several light coats work best. I generally do the light first coat, which will be ugly. You will see the wood tones through the paint. After that, I do a second light coat, finishing up with a third coat of touchups, concentrating on any area that needs a little more paint.
White Wooden Rocking Chair
Many of you may not like painted furniture, and I get it. When furniture is free and being rehomed, I paint it. Is there any time I don't paint furniture? I try not to paint family pieces.
White Furniture Pieces
Painting several items at a time makes more sense if you're a furniture flipper. Paint projects #2 and #3 while #1 is drying. Click these links to see the small table makeover and the double-sided chalkboard.
Not shown: I washed and dried the rocking chair cushions.
The rocking chair backrest cushion snaps to the rocking chair to hold it in place.
White Wooden Rocking Chair With Blue Cushions
The little rabbit is over 40 years old. I wish I could keep this white wooden rocking chair in my bedroom, but there isn't enough room.
When flipping furniture, I recommend waiting at least 30 days before selling your pieces to allow the paint to cure properly.
A friend was at my booth when this rocking chair sold. It went home with an expectant mom! I wonder if she is having a girl or a boy.

Great save, Gail! The cushions came up lovely and make it the perfect addition to a nursery! I'm sure it was nice to hear where this one ended up. Like you, I have a booth and rarely get to see who takes my pieces home! XO

Yes, it was great to know where this piece ended up. I love rocking chairs, I wish I had a porch to put it on--I would have kept it!

Natalie,
I just LOVE my paint sprayer with any kind of paint. But I do love the perfect sheen of All-In-One-Paint.
