Have you ever heard of cutting a table in half? It's a fun and unique way to change up a small side table, or even a coffee table.

This little side table was a curb find. I wanted to cut it in half to make two tables for beside my bed. I used a jigsaw to cut it. You could easily use a table saw or a circular saw. But, because this was my first attempt at cutting a table in half, I went with a jigsaw.

Look at this pitiful spot! It is/WAS my bedroom. This spot had been without baseboard for years. So sad! Oh, but the bedroom is oh so much prettier now with new paint, closet, and laminate flooring.

After I painted my bedroom and added some new baseboard, I took pictures of the two little tables so I could list them on Craig’s List.

I sold them right away. A lady bought them for her daughter’s “shabby” bedroom.

I used a scrap piece of wood for a cleat to stabilize the table to the wall. Not brain surgery, but I really liked the way the tables looked. This is when I first started painting projects black. I have since figured out that I don’t like to dust black furniture! I’d rather be working in the shop, not dusting!

You can also cut tables in half and stack them! Use ½ of a coffee table to make a hall table.

wondering the best way to redo a table. I know I want to have a painted surface that looks stressed and cool, but not sure how to remove the old stuff. can you just sand it a bit and then prime?? Household paint in enamel finish would work, right? I know nothing about this and am getting very scared about starting the project!!

Your new night stands look great! I also like don't like to dust and I like the profile or outline that black paint gives to a room so if it has a top surface...I just stain it walnut or sometimes use swiss coffee paint , then the rest is painted black. Black pieces without dusting stress!

The table looks great, what a fantastic idea to cut it in half, its a simple way to add some contrast to the room, even if its a small space... it would be perfect for flowers or photo frames... upcycling is soooo fun, I create many upcycled crafts too... its so nice to find a fellow upcycler. Cheers

LOVE these tables, Gail! They are so cute! 🙂 I too recently found that I HATE dark furniture for the same reason! At least when I can't SEE the dust I can just ignore it. 🙂

Cute tables... I love that idea... I have small bedroom too and those would work perfectly. Thanks for sharing them.

I know what you mean about the black... hence no black furniture in my house...lol. I use it for accessories and shelves...the trick to black shelves is to hang them above eye level... if you can't see dust it isn't there, right? It works for me...lol

      Have a great day Gail.

      Hugs, Deb

They did come out cute, and you know I still love the black. Could be because I don't do my own dusting, right?
Mmm, blog tips, let me think on that, there are so many I need to know!
