How to use Krylon stainless steel spray paint to update kitchen accessories such as a knife block and a glass utensil holder. #MyRepurposedLife #repurposed #kitchen #accessories #spraypaint #stainlesssteel via @repurposedlife

I love easy projects using spray paint! I'm going to show you how to update your kitchen accessories using stainless steel spray paint. Spray paint is great for thrift store projects too!

    stainless-steel-spray-paint-kitchen-accessories-2

I love the power of spray paint, don’t you? Metallic spray paint really ups your game!

    Stainless Steel Spray Paint

stainless steel spray paint for glass jar

A new accessory holder was needed for my kitchen. This very large glass jar is perfect for the task. All it needs is a little metallic stainless steel spray paint!

Project done originally in 2011  🙂

Glass Jar Painted With Stainless Steel Spray Paint

stainless steel spray paint on glass

Wow! The glass jar looks completely different after several light coats of the stainless steel spray paint. I find that a few light coats with about 10 mins in between works best for long lasting adhesion. Truth be told, this was nearly 8 years ago and I still use this kitchen accessory holder in my kitchen today! The paint has held up great, no peeling scratching off or any problems at all.

    TIP:

Read the directions on the can of spray for dry time and how long to wait before a second coat.

How to Prep Your Knife Block

how to paint a knife block

To get the knife block to match the kitchen accessory jar, the slots were taped off. I removed the small metal tag with the label. Again, I did several light coats of the stainless steel spray paint.

It really is amazing how easy a project this is, with so much impact. See more painted glass ideas here.

After the paint dried, I replaced the metal tag. It looks so much better with the stainless steel spray paint than it did with the wooden knife block.

Now I have matching kitchen accessories! I encourage you to rethink your purchases. Do you already have something at home that could be upcycled with spray paint?

I love how both of the projects turned out. Spray painting is such a quick and easy fix.

update: Look how pretty they look after I painted my kitchen countertops

Another Update: I got new appliances, and I painted my kitchen island, plus—have you seen my DIY Barn Doors?

And FINALLY--I have new appliances, a new floor and UPDATED this island ONE MORE TIME!

Love your ideas and completed projects. I, too, am a fan of spray paint. I have updated many items. I’m currently looking for an outdated floor lamp and am having trouble finding one. I’m beginning to think more people are using spray paint to update the look of things. Keep up the good work.

        Nancy,
I hope you find your floor lamp. Where I shop, a vendor has them all the time. I have one in my stash right now I'm working on. Gotta Love spray paint!

The jar and knife block look sharp!! I found myself in love with the Hamilton Beach Eclectics small appliances when I first saw them (back in 2005-6?) with their vintage style & cool colors to match. I prefered the apple green and butter yellow shades, and a couple years ago decided not to wait until I could afford it to make my refrigerator match, so I spray painted my existing fridge a pretty apple green (one of these days I will be able to afford a Big Chill in a pretty shade of green, but until then, my Frigidaire with its Kyrlon Key Lime pie color will serve the purpose!!

Love the knife block. Can't wait to try it, especially since I have two and they don't match. I also have a suggestion for you. I took the swirly wooden apron off from over my sink. In two minutes my kitchen looked a lot more updated. Just an idea. I love your new look!

You're not the first person to mention removing the cornice/valance on my kitchen cabinets. There is an ugly light fixture I would have to deal with first. Maybe down the road...

        thanks Mary!

Hi- The kitchen looks great. What type of paint did you use on the floor? My "cave kitchen" could use this treatment!
