Making new projects for kids out of old beds and cribs is not only easy, but very rewarding. You’re saving a piece of furniture from the landfill and bringing joy to your little one. It’s a win/win.
Old beds and cribs are easy to come across at flea markets, yard sales and thrift stores. Maybe you even have your child’s crib stored in the attic. Today, I’m sharing many ideas to inspire you to upcycle an old bed to make a new project.
Upcycled Bed Ideas
This kid’s corner table set was made using and old day bed for the bench. The table is made from new materials. For this project, you would need a bed that the footboard and headboard are the same size. Complete directions on how to make this project in my post Corner Table Bench for the Kids.
Kid’s Bench made from a Bunk Bed
Use a 70’s bunkbed with wide planks to make an outdoor park bench. Get the instructions here Bunk Bed Bench.

Foot Board into Kid’s Bench
This sweet little kid’s bench was made from a foot board. Typically foot boards are not as tall as headboards, so they are perfect for little kids. Many times photographers will buy these small benches for the studios.
This was plan A, where you can see how the bench was made. I liked this Repurposed Headboard Toddler Bench, but it never sold, so on to Plan B.
Many times projects don’t turn out as we expect. Since the pink toddler bench never sold, it was back to the drawing board. Don’t you LOVE it like this? See the reboot of the bench in my post Take 2 Tuesday Toddler Bench.
Queen Bed into Kid’s Bench
In more recent years, I used a queen bed to make this adorable bench for kids. By cutting the bed into three pieces, you have the back and the sides. I used my favorite Smoked Glaze on pink paint to get this look on the perfect bench for dolls. Perfect for grownup ladies and children.
Repurposed Crib Projects for Kids
Older vintage cribs make great easels and chalkboards. You can use both sides. Repurposed Old Crib into Chalkboard Easel will give you the scoop on how to put this project together.
This toy box made from an old crib might be one of my favorite projects of all time. It was a little more difficult, but if you have a crib like this, I give you complete step by step directions on how to make this toy box bench project.
Twin Bed Toy Box
Look! It’s a bench AND a toy box made from a twin headboard. This fun project is the perfect addition to any small child’s room. See how to make a twin bed toy box here.
Projects made with Crib Rails
DIY Bike Rack for the Kids
Bike Rack from a crib rail from kelly liegh creates. It's really easy to find a use for the headboard and foot board of a crib, and then you end up with a lot of crib rails. I love this repurposed crib rail made into a bike rack.

DIY Wagon made from crib rails Tidbits
Bookcase Headboard Project
An old bookcase headboard makes a great shelf and storage piece for the kiddos. I think the small drawers would be their favorite little hiding spot for treasures.
Pin this for later because I’ll be updating this post periodically with new projects. You won’t want to miss out!
