Do you remember my $5.00 table from Monday’s post? It was in good shape, however it was very rickety.
It came apart pretty easily, with just a little twisting and turning.
It has big ole dowels that fit into holes. (is there a name for the hole?)
I am usually a fan of wood glue. However because I wanted the joints to be nice and tight, I reached for the trusty Gorilla Glue. I followed the directions, squeezed some glue into the hole, and dampened the dowel. I did this for the support brace and the top of each of the four legs.
As you can see, it dries white. 😉 But what I like about it is how it expands (oozes out).
I used some bar clamps to hold it all together while the glue worked it’s magic.
Here it is in the middle of my living room, waiting to be painted. I roughed it up just a little with some sand paper outside while it was still rickety. Can you see what paint I’m going to use? Yep, that yellow oops paint that was also on Monday’s post.
It is on some of the plastic drop cloth that I also got from Joey’s booth. When I paint, I like to raise the item off of the plastic, so I don’t get that “peeling” business.
Since I was using that fancy Behr Premium Plus paint, I did not primer. This is after one coat. That rough place over there on the right leg is where I accidently had a run. I scraped of the run because I didn’t want it to show through the next coat.
I really like this paint. It works really well as a primer.
This is after two coats. It’s got a little boo boo there on that right corner.
I really like this color. It sort of reminds me of an “old” yellow. Not to be confused with “Old Yeller”. Not a modern yellow at all.
It’s a very soft yellow, however I’m not exactly sure it’s done.
I may distress it, or glaze it, or both?
I will not be keeping it, I have no need for it. It is really hard to get a good representation of the color. It’s sort of a buttery color. Currently it is in my living room. When I look over at it, it seems “finished”. But in the pictures it looks too bright. Can you tell I’m really undecided?
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? C’mon spit it out!
Edited to ADD:
I Glazed this table and several other items.
